Ground motion variability in Israel from 3-D simulations of <i>M</i> 6 and <i>M</i> 7 earthquakes

Abstract. In Israel, due to low seismicity rates and a sparse seismic network, the temporal spatial coverage of ground motion data is insufficient estimate variability in moderate–strong (M>6) motions required construct local model (GMM). To fill this gap study M>6 events, we performed series 3-D numerical simulations M 6 7 earthquakes. Based on results simulations, developed parametric attenuation (AM) studied residuals between simulated AM peak velocities (PGVs) single station variability. We also compared with global GMM terms PGV significant duration (Ds 595). Our suggested that was unable fully capture mainly incorporation super-shear rupture effects sedimentary structures. showed an imported considerably deviates from motions. This work sets basis for future development comprehensive accounting source, path, site effects.
